SRG: September recap, October/November selections

We’d like to thank Reading Group members Gloria and Susan for facilitating our very first Skype session. The Reading Group discussed Locked Inside with author Annette Mori. Our other selection was Just Enough Light by AJ Quinn.

October 14 Meeting:

We are pleased to announce that author Lacey Schmidt will be at this meeting as we discuss Catch to Release.

On the verge of finally releasing her own record label, lesbian folk-rock star Shay Greenaura finds herself caught up in more than just her music. When the threats she receives turn deadly, her manager contracts a security firm for protection.

Addison Weller, a former Diplomatic Security Services agent, is called in to assess the threats against Shay. Can Addison overcome the setback of her previous security detail and save Shay? Or will their undeniable attraction, brewing silently between them, prove a distraction and be the fatal catch?

We’ll also be reading Above the Law by Carsen Taite.

DEA Agent Dale Nelson paid the ultimate price for her service when her wife was killed by drug dealers. Now she’s assigned to a task force investigating the suspects, and she doesn’t need the distraction of the beautiful but infuriating reporter Lindsey Ryan. Despite her initial resistance, Dale discovers that Lindsey is as talented and capable as she is attractive. Will she get a second shot at love, or will the peril of her job rob her of the chance at happiness again?

Investigative reporter Lindsey Ryan will do whatever it takes to get the truth. As a favor, she agrees to anchor what is supposed to be a puff piece on the DEA. However, despite the reluctance of the striking Agent Nelson to share any information, Lindsey learns power and politics are at play, and exposing the truth could not only be dangerous, but could jeopardize her chance at love.

November 11 Meeting:

Demonology for Beginners by M.K. McGowan.

All relationships face challenges, but for Wilhelmina Harker and Lucy Drake, trouble is just beginning. Four years of marriage sees boredom creeping in. Until…

One dark and stormy night, a beautiful stranger bites Drake. From there, life takes a frightening turn as Drake comes face-to-face with deadly immortals, mad scientists, and murderous thugs. Or, as Drake learns, the family.

When Drake goes missing, Wil has to face the possibility that her wife might be turning into a vampire. Throw in a cranky police detective, Drake’s infatuated colleague, and one super surly feline, and things get really interesting. When the in-laws from Hell show up, well, suddenly, boredom doesn’t sound all that bad.

September Reading Group Meeting

We love women, we love books and we love fun. If you do too, then come join us on Friday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Genuine Joe Coffeehouse, 2001 W. Anderson Lane (just east of Burnet Road) for the Lone Star Literary Society’s Sapphic Reading Group. Contact us here for more information.

This month we’re reading:

Locked Inside by Annette Mori:

How much does the power of love matter to someone who has overcome obstacles greater than most people face in a lifetime?

Carly, a beautiful and vivacious young woman, sees something in the semi-comatose Belinda, and they form an unusual bond. Can Carly help Belinda break free from her emotional prison? Will Belinda’s fears allow their relationship to evolve into something deeper? Find out in this wonderfully evocative romance that is sure to touch your heart.

Just Enough Light by AJ Quinn

Kellen Ryan has taken the survival skills she learned on the streets and used them to create an elite search-and-rescue operation, as well as the first home she’s known in forever—a sanctuary in Haven, Colorado, high in the Rockies.

A small mountain town was the last place Harvard-educated Dr. Dana Kingston expected to find herself. Still, when she’s offered an opportunity to partner with Kellen’s operation and develop a medical triage center, Dana follows her heart.

Dana falls hard and fast for the enigmatic Kellen. But she quickly realizes Kellen’s heart is as carefully guarded as her past, and breaking through will take time. Except time is the one thing they may not have, because a deadly threat has returned, and this time he plans to finish what he started.
